This recipe combines three delightful components into one unforgettable meal.

  • Total Time: 1 hour
  • Yield: 4-6 1x

Ingredients

Scale

For the Salisbury Steak:

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1/3 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup minced onion
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard powder

For the Garlic Mashed Potatoes:

  • 2 pounds potatoes, peeled and quartered
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Mushroom & Onion Gravy:

  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Salisbury Steak:

    • In a bowl, mix together ground beef, bread crumbs, minced onion, egg, salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard powder. Shape into 4-6 patties.
    • Heat a skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties on both sides until browned and cooked through, about 4 minutes per side. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  2. Make the Garlic Mashed Potatoes:

    • Boil potatoes and garlic in a pot of salted water for about 20 minutes, or until tender.
    • Drain and return to the pot. Add milk and butter, then mash until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Cook the Mushroom & Onion Gravy:

    • In the same skillet used for the steaks, add onions and mushrooms. Cook until softened and browned.
    • Sprinkle flour over the onions and mushrooms, stirring to coat. Cook for about 1 minute.
    • Gradually pour in beef broth and soy sauce, stirring constantly until the gravy thickens. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Assemble and Serve:

    • Place a Salisbury steak on a plate, spoon garlic mashed potatoes beside it, and generously top both with mushroom and onion gravy.
