Recipe Title: Cheesy Reuben Casserole
Ingredients:
- 2 tubes (8 ounces each) refrigerated crescent rolls
- 1 pound sliced Swiss cheese
- 1-1/4 pounds sliced deli corned beef
- 1 can (14 ounces) sauerkraut, rinsed and well drained
- 2/3 cup Thousand Island salad dressing
- 1 egg white, lightly beaten
- 3 teaspoons caraway seeds
Directions:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Unroll one tube of crescent dough onto a lightly floured surface and shape it into a long rectangle; diligently seal seams and perforations. Transfer the dough to a greased 13-in. x 9-in. baking dish, pressing it evenly along the bottom and slightly up the sides.
- Place in the oven and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the dough turns a golden brown. Meanwhile, prepare the filling.
- Layer half of the Swiss cheese over the baked crust, followed by all the sliced corned beef. Mix the sauerkraut with the Thousand Island dressing in a bowl until well combined; spread this mixture evenly over the corned beef.
- Add the remaining Swiss cheese on top of the sauerkraut layer. Roll out the second tube of crescent dough into a rectangle the size of the baking dish, sealing any seams and perforations. Carefully place this dough over the cheese layer.
- Brush the top dough layer with the lightly beaten egg white and sprinkle evenly with caraway seeds.
- Return the dish to the oven and bake for another 12-16 minutes, or until the top crust is golden brown and the casserole is heated through.
- Let the bake stand for 5 minutes before slicing. This allows the layers to set slightly, making it easier to cut and serve.
This Reuben Bake combines the classic flavors of a Reuben sandwich into a delightful casserole that’s both satisfying and easy to prepare. It’s perfect for those who love the traditional sandwich but are looking for a fun and cheesy twist. Enjoy the melding of flavors and the satisfying crunch of the crust in every bite!
