  • 8 slices rye bread
  • 8 slices Swiss cheese
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 tablespoons butter, divided
  • Secret Sauce:
    • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
    • 2 tablespoons ketchup
    • 1 tablespoon relish
    • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

  1. Form and Cook Patties: Shape the beef into 4 patties, season, and cook in a skillet over medium heat to your desired doneness. Set aside.
  2. Caramelize Onions: In the same skillet, sauté the onions in butter until golden and sweet. Set aside.
  3. Prepare Bread: Butter one side of each bread slice.
  4. Mix Secret Sauce: Combine mayonnaise, ketchup, relish, and Worcestershire sauce in a bowl.
  5. Assemble Sandwiches: On the unbuttered side of a bread slice, layer a slice of cheese, a patty, caramelized onions, secret sauce, another slice of cheese, and top with another bread slice, buttered side out.
