- Salt and pepper to taste
- 8 slices rye bread
- 8 slices Swiss cheese
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 4 tablespoons butter, divided
- Secret Sauce:
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon relish
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
- Form and Cook Patties: Shape the beef into 4 patties, season, and cook in a skillet over medium heat to your desired doneness. Set aside.
- Caramelize Onions: In the same skillet, sauté the onions in butter until golden and sweet. Set aside.
- Prepare Bread: Butter one side of each bread slice.
- Mix Secret Sauce: Combine mayonnaise, ketchup, relish, and Worcestershire sauce in a bowl.
- Assemble Sandwiches: On the unbuttered side of a bread slice, layer a slice of cheese, a patty, caramelized onions, secret sauce, another slice of cheese, and top with another bread slice, buttered side out.
- Grill to Perfection: Cook the sandwich in the skillet until the bread is toasted and the cheese has melted, about 3 minutes per side.
