Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2/3 cup warm milk (110°F/45°C)
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Chocolate Glaze:
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 2–4 tablespoons milk

Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, combine 2 cups flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Mix in warm milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla. Beat until well combined.
- Knead and Rise: Gradually add the remaining flour until a soft dough forms. Knead on a floured surface until smooth, about 6-8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
- Shape Donuts: Punch down the dough and roll out to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut with a donut cutter.
- Second Rise: Place cut donuts on a parchment-lined baking sheet, cover, and let rise again until doubled, about 30 minutes.
- Fry the Donuts: Heat oil to 350°F. Fry donuts in batches until golden brown, about 1 minute per side. Drain on paper towels.
- Prepare the Glaze: Whisk together powdered sugar, cocoa powder, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
- Glaze and Serve: Dip each warm donut into the glaze, then set on a rack to dry.
