- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar

- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (additional)
- 1 3/4 cups hot water
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). No need to grease the pan due to the fudge layer.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons cocoa, baking powder, and salt.
- Prepare the Batter: Stir in the milk, oil, and vanilla until smooth. Spread the batter evenly in the ungreased 9-inch square baking pan.
- Create the Fudge Layer: In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and additional 1/4 cup cocoa. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the batter.
- Add Hot Water: Carefully pour hot water over the mixture; do not stir. This will create the molten fudge layer as it bakes.
- Bake: Place in the oven and bake for about 35-40 minutes, or until the center is just set but still slightly soft.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the cake to cool for a few minutes. Serve warm, ideally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, which complements the rich, warm fudge perfectly.
