  • ¼ cup cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ cups hot water

Instructions

 

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Heat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8 inch baking dish.
  2. Mix the Base Ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and 2 tablespoons cocoa. Add milk, melted butter, and vanilla, mixing just until combined.
  3. Assemble the Base: Spread the batter evenly in the prepared dish.
  4. Prepare the Topping: In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and ¼ cup cocoa. Sprinkle this evenly over the batter.
  5. Add Water: Gently pour the hot water over the entire dish without stirring.
  6. Bake: Place in the oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, until the top is crackly and the center is set.
  7. Cool and Serve: Let cool for about 10 minutes. Serve warm, ideally with vanilla ice cream.
