For the Dumplings:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 3/4 cup milk
For the Blackberry Sauce:
- 4 cups fresh blackberries
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Prepare the Blackberry Sauce: In a large saucepan, mix blackberries, sugar, and water. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 5 minutes, gently mashing some berries. Add vanilla and cinnamon, and reduce heat to low.
- Make the Dumpling Dough: In a bowl, sift flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Cut in butter until mixture looks like coarse crumbs. Gradually stir in milk to form a dough.
- Cook the Dumplings: Return the berry sauce to a simmer. Drop tablespoons of dough into the sauce. Cover and cook for 15 minutes until dumplings are puffed and set.
- Serve Warm: Serve the dumplings warm, spooned with extra blackberry sauce. Add whipped cream or ice cream if desired.
